Meet the Bajau Nomads also known as Sea Nomads, they spent most of their life secluded in the middle of the ocean surviving by spearing fish through deep sea diving, a feat where even Olympic divers find hard to do. Their people are also self-sufficient in dealing with every type of heavy labour almost every day…
The stress placed on their back and shoulder are tremendous yet somehow they are able to maintain their life style and survive. Aqdul Salleh is one of the few remaining Bajau Nomads but unlike others, he is called “burau” as he is unable to swim. Bajau nomads who can’t swim find it hard to survive meaning that only his father was able to provide for the family. But Aqdul’s father passed away when he was young, he drowned trying save Aqdul when he was learning to swim when a sudden high tide came flushing Aqdul out to deep sea.
Aqdul and his mother was forced ashore to survive in society. Equipped with knowledge from the Bajau’s ancient medicines he set his ambitions on becoming a contemporary medicine researcher while his chance came when Michigan State University eventually offered him a scholarship, he would be flown to the US to learn about medicine but life wasn’t all smooth sailing.
“For people like me who lived most of my life on water It was difficult to accustom to land and society, my body gets tired easily and I spent most of my time sitting down, this made me suffer from chronic back and shoulder pain.”
Back in the days when Aqdul was with his mom she would apply a type of Bajau technique by massaging his acupuncture points with heat needles, but after flying to the US alone he couldn’t apply such techniques without the help of others.
“It was then I tried to reinvent a way to relief this muscle stiffness by making a make-shift blanket with heat sources that targets acupuncture points behind our back, the effect wasn’t as good but it works.”
Aqdul shared this invention with his friends and they all regarded positive effects on it, this continued on until it reached the ears of a renowned professor. Dr Dawson Alfaro a leading medical researcher in his university…
“Back and shoulder pain are the number 1 chronic problem in the USA, 3/4 of people over the age of 45 suffer some form of back or shoulder pain and all these while the industry have been looking at it at a wrong angle.”
“My recent breakthrough found that back and shoulder pain are caused from muscle stiffness built over the years, with the optimum temperature at the precise acupuncture points our muscles can be soften causing the tissue to relax increasing its elasticity and tangibility thus reducing pain and ache.”
After collaborating with Dr Dawson, they came up with an improved product.
It works like a blanket with heating elements that target acupuncture points, its flexible design is made to wrap around the back and neck of individuals allowing it to accommodate to any type of body built, and the heat will then be penetrated through vibrating massage drums that slowly relaxes and softens the muscle tissue in the back, effectively reducing stiffness and pain by increasing blood flow.
“Because of my parent I am able to stand here today, Tahita™ is a tribute to my late father and his influence on me and also my mother who raised me all alone. I know they are both proud of me wherever they are.”
“Having the ability to be able to spread this ancient method with everyone have been one of my ambitions since young.”
If you are thinking of getting one now might be a good time.
